 Magnetic Resonance Imaging

MRI Screening

Screen and diagnose disease early with MRI.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive medical imaging technique that uses and magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the soft tissues and organs in your body.

MRI does not use any ionizing radiation and has no known harmful effects. Our Siemens 1.5T wide bore scanner ( one of 2 in Canada) offers the latest technology to complete your scan faster in a more comfortable experience.

We perform both dedicated and screening MRI’s to align with your care providers to suit your health care needs.

Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan

CT Scan

Get a deeper understanding of what’s happening internally with a detailed CT scan.

Our computerized tomography (CT) scan combines a series of X-rays and computer to create detailed images inside the body.

Elysian has a new Siemens machine that provides incredible image quality with radiation dose saving measures.

CT’s are done on all areas of the body that are clinically indicated by your doctor. Often contrast is required to highlight the tissues, organs and vessels.

Our types of CT scans

    • Acute trauma to head, facial bones, spine and orbit (e.g. foreign body)

    • Decreased or altered level of consciousness

    • Assess and follow up imaging for Strokes

    • Intracranial venous thrombosis

    • Appendicitis

    • Diverticulitis

    • Bowel obstruction

    • Bowel ischemia

    • Renal colic

    • Cholecystitis or biliary obstruction

    • Solid organ abscess/infection or collection

    • Post-operative complications

    • Metastasis preoperative workup

    • Tumor – search for primary in the abdomen/pelvis

    • Pancreatitis complications

    • Malignant disease; staging prior to treatment or evaluation if concern regarding progression

    • Solid organ masses (intraabdominal, pelvic for further characterization)

    • Workup of asymptomatic abdominal mass

    • Renal or liver transplant complications

  • Chest imaging without contrast and including Hi Res.

    • Hemoptysis

    • Acute interstitial lung disease

    • Characterization of mediastinal, lung or pleural mass

    • Chronic Interstitial lung disease – evaluation of progression

    • Evaluation for lung cancer

    • Coronary artery calcium score in patients with risk factors

    • Cardiac CTA’s are non invasive exam to look for narrowing/ blockages in the arteries of the heart.

    • Evaluation of rapidly deteriorating malignant disease

    • Sciatica with progressive neurological deficit

    • Back pain

    • Spinal stenosis with bowel or bladder dysfunction

    • All extremeties can be scanned at very low dose. (shoulder, wrist, elbow, hand, knee, hip, foot)

    • Diagnose and follow up on Aortic Aneurysms

    • Diagnose and follow up Aortic Dissections

    • Renal Angiogram to assess for renal hypertension

    • EVAR to check patency of Aortic stents

Fluoroscopy Guided Arthrograms and Pain Medication Injections

MR Arthrogram

Using the power of a live X-ray to guide procedures.

An exam performed by our Radiologist under sterile technique. The joint space is located under live x-ray guidance. The skin is cleaned, freezing given. X-ray dye is injected into the joint, followed by MRI dye. The patient then goes to MRI with the dye highlighting the joint, this can detect tears of the labrum.

Ultrasound

Look inside for the peace of mind you need.

Ultrasound is a quick, safe, and non-invasive way to see what’s going on in your body. It uses high frequency sound waves to visualize many structures in the body and can detect abnormalities without the use of radiation or contrast dye.

It can help assess muscle and tendon injuries, check for inflammation or tumours, check on the growth and well-being of your baby, and detect disease in the arteries and veins.

Our Siemens Acuson Ultrasound Machine is the latest in ultrasound equipment with high-resolution imaging and our large, private ultrasound room will make you feel comfortable and relaxed.

DEXA / Bone Density Scan

Dexa Scan

Body Composition and Bone Density

DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) measure the density of tissues and bones by passing low dose x-ray though the body.

Body Composition gives you info on your Fat mass Index (FMI),. Visceral Adipose tissue (VAT), Lean Tissue etc…

An annual scan provides you with results and insights that help you set specific diet and exercise goals.

Bone Density uses the DEXA machine, and is a dedicated measurement of the Bone Density of the Lumbar Spine and Hip to aid your doctor in diagnosis of osteopenia and osteoporosis. Bone Density requires a requisition from a physician.

FAQs

  • We need a requisition filled out by a doctor. Please fax us the requisition to 778-613-2656 or email to imaging@elysianhealth.ca We send this to our Radiologist to determine the best way to run the exam. We will call you to book the appointment, we are typically booking in a couple days to a week or 2 depending on the type of exam and if Nurses or doctors are required for the exam.

  • Our MRI is a wide bore machine, and the CT scan is very open. Our technologists will take lots of time with you to ensure your comfort and ensure you are able to tolerate the exam. we can book a “fitting” appointment for 15 minutes to see how you will do in the machine. You can ask your doctor for a prescription for Ativan ( Ativan is not provided by our clinic, you must obtain this before your appointment) as long as you have a ride home. The techs will talk to you throughout and ensure your comfort.

  • We are a private medical imaging facility. We are unable to bill to MSP, even for Ultrasound. Please call our office for a detailed quote. (We often need to see the requisition to accurately quote as some exams require contrast, or multiple parts to be imaged which can change the price.

  • No, unfortunately, we only have CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Bone Density, Fluoro for MR Arthrograms and joint injections. The nearest location with x-ray services is Peace Arch Hospital.

  • Once your exam is complete the, Radiologists view the images to create a detailed report. Typically the report is ready within 3 business days.

If you have prior imaging on the area you had scanned, we order a CD of your prior images for the Doctor to compare. Our Radiologists comparing the relevant previous images provides you with the most complete report to know who your body has changed over time. This process can take a bit longer. Depending on the location of your previous images, they may take a few days to couple weeks to get your images to us.
