  • blood tests

What is testicular ultrasound?

A testicular ultrasound utilizes high-frequency ultrasound waves to evaluate the testicles and

the surrounding tissue. If you experience pain, swelling, or detect a lump, your doctor may

recommend this procedure to identify various abnormalities in the scrotum. The test is

particularly effective in detecting conditions such as cancer, fluid collections, abnormal blood

flow, and hernias. Did you know that men are at the greatest risk of developing testicular

cancer between the ages of 18-35? Self-detection, ultrasound, and blood work can all aid in the

diagnosis, which is highly curable with early detection.

What can I expect for this exam?

There is no preparation for testicular ultrasound. The procedure involves applying gel to the

area and gently moving the transducer over the skin. A licensed Ultrasound Technologist

conducts the examination, which typically lasts between 15 to 30 minutes. After the exam, a

Radiologist will read the ultrasound and results will be sent to your doctor within a few days.
